Rock Climbing SOP

  • Only use words “TAKE” and “SLACK” in positive, unambiguous logic.
    • Never say things like “Don’t take”, “I’ll take some slack”, etc…
  • Use Pointing and Calling for all safety checks
  • When cleaning, leave the last quick draw under the anchor clipped in as a back up
    • On Lead → you would have clipped it in already
    • On Top Rope → clip the Belayer end of the rope into the last quick draw
    • On Following/Seconding →
      1. At the last bolt before the anchor, leave the quick draw in place
      2. Unclip the Climber end of the rope and clip in Belayer end of the rope
      3. Swapping the rope ends when you are climbing up is not always feasible, use best judgement
  • Bring some extra locking carabiners on your harness in case you lose/drop one
